DIPNA HORRA

DHUNIA:
OCTET

November 6, 2014 - January 1, 2015

Dhunia is a Punjabi word (Punjabi being the artist’s native tongue) which essentially means ‘the world.’ What is our world and how do we construct, situate ourselves in and view it? Horra poses these questions using a combination of objects and sounds that situate the visitor in a world in the making, at that point of tension between the familiar and the unknown – the uncanny.

RENA SAVA | XIT-RM

URBAN ABSTRACTION

November 6, 2014 - January 1, 2015

Urban Abstraction presents a new series of works by regional artist Rena Sava that marks the artist’s move from the print-making technique of etching to that of relief printing. Sava uses the unconventional material of Styrofoam to craft her unique ‘fragmented’ landscapes, taking cues from the built environments that we interact with every day.

GLEN JONES | XIT-RM

NEW WORK

May 14 - June 29, 2014

Jones distills Frank Gehry’s architecture to their most basic elements and renders them anew for the viewer. Jones transforms Gehry’s iconic architectural buildings into their sculptural cores as well as into something unfamiliar. This is a testament to the potential within photography to go beyond a simple record of visual stimuli. In a sense, the artist is a collector and his obsession with Gehry allows us to think about what we think we may know already, and see the power in our ways of seeing.

FAUSTA FACCIPONTE

SIX CHARACTERS

IN SEARCH OF A PHOTOGRAPH

Featured Exhibition in the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival

May 14 - June 29, 2014

In Six Characters in Search of a Photograph, Fausta Facciponte presents new work that blurs the line between the real and the artificial. The artist creates diorama-like scenes composed of kitsch decorative objects; ceramic figurines, cocktail glasses and garish landscape paintings are crammed into absurd but formally elegant compositions.

HYUNRYOUNG KIM | XIT-RM

RELATIONAL SPACE

March 6 - April 18, 2014

In her work, Kim explores relationships between colours, shapes, figure and ground in a visual language that is at once intellectual and emotive. She aims to depict both the “fact” and the emotion of the world around us; the sensorial as well as the spiritual or ephemeral. With Relational Space, Kim invites us to open up to the infinite possibilities of connection with and exploration of the world around and within us.

NATASHA GOUVEIA
LAURA MAROTTA

FORM, COLOUR, LINE

March 6 - April 18, 2014

Where noted abstract painter Ellsworth Kelly envisioned his seminal monograph Line Form Colour as an “an alphabet of plastic pictorial elements,” Form, Colour, Line picks up this notion and carries it forward, into three dimensions and away from traditionally ”masculine” forms of minimalism.
