Welcome to the Art Gallery of Mississauga’s Sixth Annual Juried Show of Visual Arts!

We were delighted to receive 300 submissions this year from emerging and established artists across Ontario. Our three jurors, Cathie Jamieson, Shaheer Zazai, and Valentyna Onisko, carefully assessed the artworks based on the images and anonymous artist statements provided before making their final selections. Their choices reflect the broad range of subject matter, techniques, and approaches represented in this open call.

This exhibition includes sculpture, textiles, photography, drawing, and painting, as well as video and augmented reality. As with any juried show, the themes explored here are wide-ranging. Yet several common threads emerge in this year’s selection. Many pieces focus on our need for connection, expressed in how we value our relationships, how we foster our own sense of culture and identity, and how we relate to the natural world. Others foreground a sense of care, fragility, vulnerability, and intimacy across diverse subjects and artistic approaches.

We extend our thanks to all the artists who shared their work through this year’s open call. We continue to be inspired by your creativity and commitment to your artistic practices.
