February at the Art Gallery of Mississauga

Exploration, Collaboration, Creation, and Connection

February brought bold creative experiences, meaningful collaborations, and opportunities to connect through art, movement, and conversation. Here’s a look back at what we shared with our community this month:

Contemporary Art Bus Tour — A Cross-City Creative Adventure

On February 1, we teamed up with the Art Gallery of Burlington and the Textile Museum of Canada for a special Contemporary Art Bus Tour that wove together the rich programming and exhibitions of all three institutions. Participants boarded the bus in Toronto and travelled through to Mississauga and Burlington, engaging with artworks, curators, and fellow art-lovers along the way. The afternoon was filled with insightful conversations and thoughtful exchanges about contemporary practices and artistic perspectives — and we were delighted to welcome over 45 participants on this inspiring art-filled journey.

Threads of Connection — New Senior Cohort Begins

Our New Horizons for Seniors grant-funded program Threads of Connection launched its second cohort at Evergreen Seniors Centre in February. This dedicated group of participants continued to explore textile collage techniques, creating one-of-a-kind artworks that reflect their lived experiences, cherished memories, and meaningful moments. This ongoing program remains a beautiful platform for storytelling, self-expression, and community building through textile art.

Family Day Button Making with MAC and The Luxe Hyatt Mississauga

In celebration of Family Day on February 16th, the AGM joined partners MAC and The Luxe Hyatt Mississauga to offer a free, drop-in button making workshop for visitors of all ages. Over the course of the event, more than 100 handmade, one-of-a-kind buttons were created — each one a creative mini masterpiece! It was a joy to share creative space with so many families, children, and button-makers.

Art of Yoga — New Instructor Pamela Lis Takes the Mat

On February 25, our series Art of Yoga — where yoga is inspired by art and art is inspired by yoga — debuted a new instructor Pamela Lis. Pamela brings her experience as a dedicated yoga practitioner and teacher to the gallery space, leading participants through a restorative, inclusive class that integrates strength, flexibility, and mindful movement with thoughtful connections to works on view. Pamela lives in Mississauga, has completed Level 1 Teacher Training, and we were delighted to welcome her warm energies to this creative wellness series.

Looking ahead, we also announced two upcoming sessions in March:

  • March 22 with Aman Wraich
  • March 25 with Pamela LisBoth sessions are available to register for via Eventbrite. (Register Here)

From Cloth to Code — Collaborative Artist Panel Discussion

We closed the month with a lively and thoughtful panel discussion featuring artists Roda Medhat and Shaheer Zazai, whose works are on view at the Art Gallery of Burlington and the Art Gallery of Mississauga respectively. Moderated by Ignazio Colt Nicastro from the Textile Museum of Canada, the conversation explored creative practice, materiality, and the intersections between textiles, technology, and cultural expression. The event sparked meaningful dialogue and gave audiences fresh perspectives on artistic process and interpretation — a rich conclusion to a vibrant month.

Thanks for being part of a community that celebrates curiosity, creativity, and connection. We’re excited to carry this momentum into March and beyond.

Warmly,
Sabrina Boyer
