The Art Gallery of Mississauga (AGM) invites emerging and established artists living and working in Ontario to apply to its Fifth Annual Juried Show of Visual Arts. Submissions must include a complete application form found HERE Please follow the online instructions for application requirements and payment instructions.

THE JURORS

Lyla Rye is a Toronto-based, multi-disciplinary artist who works in installation, sculpture, video, drawing, and photography to create encounters with real and illusionary space. For over 35 years her work has been exhibited in galleries and screenings across Canada and internationally. She has exhibited at The Power Plant, The Whitney Museum of American Art, Southern Alberta Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and as part of the Karachi Biennale in Pakistan.  She has work in the public collections of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, York University, Cadillac Fairview Corporation, The Tom Thomson Art Gallery, The Robert McLaughlin Gallery, and as part of Lorna Mills’ Ways of Something at The Whitney Museum of American Art, NY. Recent solo exhibitions include Mirage, curated by Betty Julian for Prefix ICA, Toronto in 2020 and Illusion’s Obstacles, curated by Marcie Bronson, at Cambridge Art Galleries in 2022.

Gary Taxali is a Mississauga-based artist and illustrator known for his retro stylized art in the realm of pop. He has exhibited in galleries and museums throughout North America and Europe including The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Jonathan LeVine Gallery, The Antonio Colombo Gallery, Steve Lazarides/The Outsiders, and The Andy Warhol Museum. His clients include Sony, Converse, Time, Rolling Stone, Newsweek, GQ, The New Yorker, and The New York Times. He has won hundreds of illustration and design awards including recognition from American Illustration, Communication Arts, Tow Gold Medals from The Society of Illustrators, a nomination for a Cannes Lion, and a 2009 Grammy Award Nomination. Taxali was listed as one of the top 100 illustrators in the world by art book publisher Taschen. He is a tenured professor at OCAD University in Toronto, Canada.

Tamara Toledo, Ph.D. is a Toronto-based curator, writer, and scholar, co-founder of the non-profit arts organization, Latin American Canadian Art Projects. Her research focuses on Latin American diasporic art in Canada shaped by violence, trauma, and displacement, following decolonial artistic practices that defy hegemonic tendencies within contemporary art. Toledo has presented at various conferences in Montreal, New York, Vancouver, Chicago, Mexico City, and Toronto. Her writing has appeared in ARM Journal, C Magazine, Fuse, Canadian Art, Latin American and Latinx Visual Culture Journal of the University of California, and Concordia University Press. Toledo is currently the Director/Curator of Sur Gallery.

 

VIRTUAL JURIED SHOW SUBMISSION PREPARATION SEMINAR

IMPORTANT INFORMATION & DATES

Selected artists will be notified between Monday September 29 and Friday October 2 ,2025.

Selected art must be delivered to the Art Gallery of Mississauga at 300 City Centre Drive, Mississauga inside the Mississauga Civic Centre on Saturday October 11 or Sunday October 12, 2025 between 12pm to 4pm or Tuesday October 14 from 11 am to 4 pm.

The Opening Reception and Awards Presentations to take place at the AGM on Thursday October 30, 2025 from 6 pm –8 pm.

Art must be collected between Thursday January 15, 2025 and Friday January 16, 2025 between 11 am and 4 pm.

All successful artists will receive an exhibition fee of $100

OVERVIEW OF TERMS OF ENTRY

Applications are only accepted electronically and should be sent through our online form.

Artists may submit 1 recent piece (completed between 2022–2025) for jurying. Open to all emerging and established artists 18 years of age and older, living and working in Ontario. 

Submissions can include paintings in any medium, drawings, mixed media, fibre art and sculpture, photography, new media and video. Work must be original.

All work must be exhibition-ready. For 2-dimensional work (eg, drawings, paintings, photographs), this includes being professionally framed or mounted on a rigid surface with appropriate mounting hardware. D-hooks and wiring must be securely attached.

NOTE: If artwork is not considered exhibition-ready when delivered, it will not be included in the exhibition.

For 2-dimensional submissions:

  • Send only one digital image of the entire artwork as per the specifications provided on the online form

  • Maximum size of actual artwork: 153cm wide x 360cm high

  • Diptychs and triptychs must fit within these dimensions


3-dimensional/sculptural pieces:

  • Please send two images (two different views) or a video of work in-site demonstrating audio, visual, kinetics as it applies to the work.


Film, Video and New Media

  • Submissions must be accompanied by clear exhibition specifications and a signed model release form, if applicable.


Additional Guidelines for New Media Submissions:

The AGM can provide multimedia equipment for exhibition use. Our supplies include four (4) 65-inch high-definition monitors, and a limited number of media players, headphones, and speakers. If your installation requires any technical equipment, please include these details in the “Installation Notes” section of your application.

No substitutions – only work that has been submitted and accepted by the jurors will be included in the exhibition. Works sold are subject to 20% commission to the Art Gallery of Mississauga. The application entry fee is non-refundable.

The AGM reserves the right to decline a submission deemed unsuitable for the show – this includes work that is not dry, not properly framed, work created with assistance, reproductions, or copies of another’s artwork. Giclée’s paintings are considered reproductions and are not acceptable.

Shipping and Insurance:

All shipping arrangements and insurance to and from the Art Gallery of Mississauga are the responsibility of the artist. Artwork selected for the Juried Show of Visual Arts will be insured by the AGM for the duration of the exhibition.
