In November, the Art Gallery of Mississauga welcomed a burst of energy and creativity as we launched new programs, welcomed school and community groups, and opened our doors in a fresh, hands-on way for people of all ages.
AGM Imagination Station Launch
We are delighted to introduce the brand-new AGM Imagination Station — a drop-in art space open during gallery hours. Designed for visitors of all ages (and especially kids), the Imagination Station invites you to unleash your creativity anytime. In its first days, we offered colouring sheets and invited visitors to experiment, mark-make, and respond to the works on display. Already, we’ve seen families, children, and individuals using the station to reflect on the exhibition, have fun with colour and form, and make something personal before heading home.
School & Community Visits: Spreading Creativity
Seniors from Ivan Franko Houses joined us for a tour and creative activity. They spent time in the galleries, then decorated postcards — using the art as inspiration to craft personal messages or images, connecting visual art to memory, story, and community.
We were thrilled to welcome more than 90 Grade 5 students from Corsair Public School for a full gallery visit. The students engaged with the exhibition — in particular, inspired by the work of Udo Schliemann — then translated what they saw into their own geometric-pattern drawings in a fun, hands-on activity. Their drawings echoed the shapes, rhythms, and energy of Schliemann’s “African Patterns.”
Students from Heartland International ESL School also visited, exploring the galleries and then trying their hands at button-making using our new People Power Press. It was a wonderful way for them to leave with a tangible memory of their visit — wearable, personal, and made by their own hands.
We are very thankful to Rama Gaming House Mississauga and Charitable Gaming, Community Good, for their support of these programs through their charity initiatives.

Threads of Connection — A New Intergenerational Textile Workshop Series
Mid-November saw the launch of Threads of Connection, a textile-collage workshop series generously funded by the New Horizons for Seniors Program. Our first group gathered to begin creating textile collages that combine fabric scraps, photos, and personal memorabilia — inviting participants to reflect on their lives, capture significant moments, and tell stories through layered, textured art. The atmosphere was warm, reflective, and filled with sharing: as individuals worked, many opened up about what their photos, fabrics, and designs represent.
We look forward to seeing these meaningful works evolve over the coming weeks — and eventually to sharing them with the wider community.
From drop-in doodles to school-wide visits, from calming yoga flows to textile storytelling, November has been a month of reaching out, making, and connecting. Thank you to everyone who came by, rolled up their sleeves, and made art with us.
We’re excited for December — more art, more workshops, more community.
Warmly,
Sabrina Boyer
