SEPTEMBER 7 - OCTOBER 22, 2017

Curator’s Tour: Saturday, September 16, 1 PM

walking across, talking through presents the work of artists who examine the personal narratives and relationships to both land and nation that are inextricably tied to the act of moving from one place to another. These stories, which can be traumatic or triumphant, ubiquitous and yet often not shared, allow us to find common ground, and reach across and through histories and politics.

BORDER CROSSINGS: A COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT LAB

SEPTEMBER 7 - OCTOBER 22, 2017

Border Crossings is an interactive community engagement lab, where visitors are invited to share their stories and experiences with crossing borders: physical; metaphorical; geographical; linguistic; spiritual and personal. Animated by activity stations, workshops, community-built installations, and facilitated by the AGM's Community Activator Sharada Eswar and artist Sonja Rainey, Border Crossings is a space for forging connections and sharing experiences across the diverse communities that make up Mississauga.

Drop in to share your story through various stations in the gallery, or participate in a workshop or event!

For more information on how to get involved and details on upcoming events/workshops, visit agmbordercrossings.com or send us an email at agm.connect@mississauga.ca.

Border Crossings is an Art Gallery of Mississauga initiative, generously funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

HIBA ABDALLAH: SOUVENIR SHOP | XIT-RM

SEPTEMBER 7 - OCTOBER 22, 2017

Artist Talk: Saturday, September 16, 1 PM

In an exhibition that resembles a shop, Hiba Abdallah explores the question: how do we define a city? An artist who frequently works in conceptual and text-based practices, in Souvenir Shop Abdallah investigates the connections between ethnic diversity and commercial enterprise in the public consciousness of Mississauga.

Hiba Abdallah has lived most of her life in Windsor, Ontario, a city that has heavily influenced her interest in the convergence of art and social practice. She is part of the artist collective Broken City Lab, which was long-listed for the 2011 Sobey Art award. She completed her BFA at the University of Windsor in 2012 and her MFA at the University of Guelph in 2017.

The AGM is proud to partner with Y+ contemporary to present this exhibition. Y+ contemporary is an artist-run space based in Scarborough, co-founded in 2015 by Danièle Dennis, Daniel Griffin Hunt, Dorica Manuel and Tiffany Schofield. Y+ aims to provide an inclusive platform for artistic production, engagement, and experimentation, with a focus on emerging practices.

The XIT-RM is a project space showcasing emerging artists in the Mississauga, GTA and 905 regions, made possible with the generous support of the RBC Foundation.

Please see the AGM website for the latest information on events and programming.
